Youth Update - July 2019

Project SOS

Good evening!  Here at Springdale, we are known for our generous hearts.  I am asking you to open them once more.

Project S.O.S

This article from the South Florida Sun Sentinel (Jan. 24, 2017) explains:

‘The beginning of a new school year is a little like Christmas.  For the most part, the kids are excited and everything is shiny and new.  And, as during the holidays, the economic pinch will undoubtedly evoke a few financial winces as parents stock up on school supplies for their children.

The National Retail Federation reports that the average student spent about $94 on school supplies in 2007.  Although the cost of backpacks, notebooks, binders, lunchboxes, calculators, crayons and colored pencils add up, these items are essential to starting the school year right.  For some families though, there just isn’t enough money in the budget to buy them, essential or not.

Students who are ill prepared from the get-go don’t hold out much hope for a promising school year, lacking confidence and self-esteem because they don’t have as much as other, more fortunate children.

But, as during traditional holidays, back-to-school can be a great time to give back.’

We will be collecting supplies for Project S.O.S which is a mission of The Banquet.  They help children in need by giving them much needed school supplies and helping them start their year out right.

I am issuing a challenge to the members and friends of Springdale.  I am challenging each family to donate one backpack with the needed school supplies.

A supply list is below.  Please use this to purchase the needed items.  We will be collecting them until Sunday, August 11th.  On that day, we will be having our Backpack Blessing and will be blessing these backpacks along with the backpacks of the children of Springdale.

Let’s show this community the true meaning of the Spirit of Springdale!

Sunday School & Back to the Bible

Registration is now open for our Sunday School and Back to the Bible classes.

Sunday School is for children ages Preschool-4th grade.

The Back to the Bible classes are for 5th and 6th grade children.  We will be using the Spark curriculum.  This is a pre-confirmation class and will be held in the new Youth Room on Sunday mornings after worship.  Ang will be leading this class.

All students need to be registered for classes.  This way we know how much curriculum to order.  The deadline or signing up is August 25th.
